I fully disagree with her being more “innocent and more emotional” than the manga character. I streamed this and was too lazy to make screencaps. I guess (just like in the case of Tomorrow’s Cantabile as well), this adaptation serves as a reminder that the Japanese are more superior when it comes to making shows. But nope, this was bad and they should feel bad about it. Korea has just proven that they have untalented script writers and what not. Sigh, it’s like they’re not even trying anymore. It’s not the actresses fault because all the faults in the character came from extra scenes and dialogue which shouldn’t be in there. Nam Da-jung seemed to be someone who was acting naive and pure but she is smart and cunning deep inside. The protagonist of liar game is supposed to be dumb, naive. The daddy back story was okay but she is by no means an adaptation of the original Kanzaki Nao. It’s like they aren’t even trying anymore. But when you use the name of something great you better deliver and not disappoint. What they have done is utter disrespect to the series. It’s a small thing compared to the shit they created. If that was the only problem, it’s fine by me. But in this case, the budget didn’t really translate into a good show.Īnd people were actually worried about Korea throwing in romance. The production quality is definitely much higher than the Japanese one. The cast looks good, the setting looks good and all. Yeah the only one thing notably good is the visual presentation.

You see there’s like 40 other contestants and why is it that so much focus is on the main female lead? The whole reality tv show concept is dumb. There were a lot fishy plot holes in the Korean adaptation. (and still did a pretty bad job at setting up the whole atmosphere of the Liar Game). The Korean version took one entire long draggy episode to deliver the rules to it’s audiences. In one scene they explained the entire premise of the Liar Game and it’s implications. The original Liar game was direct, straightforward and right to the point. Don’t shit on a work that is loved by many fans. Again, don’t fix what’s not broken! You could have just done a scene for scene copy of the original! Like I said, you wanna do something different, then do it better. I have no idea why they bothered throwing in extra casts and all the other rubbish back stories if they couldn’t even get the fundamentals right. The whole atmosphere and impact of the Liar Game was wrong in the Korean adaptation. If they did, this should have been emphasised. When the teacher robbed her of her 50 mil towards the end, why did she freak out? You can just walk away and pretend nothing happened? They might have explained that you had to shoulder a debt if you lost but it was probably very vague. Why would anyone struggle if they had no consequence if they lose. The first episode shows Nam Da-jung struggle with deciding whether to take part in the Liar Game. Everyone was happily taking part in a reality tv show where they could win a prize money but no one mentioned what happened if they lose? Everything falls apart at this point.
The rules were vague and explained haphazardly. (I’m not sure if it was lost in translation). What made Liar Game impressive was participants shoulder heavy debt when they lose. The original Liar Game was a game of fear. For those who are curious, I did a rather extensive post on manga vs jdrama here. (though my advise is to read the manga over the Japanese drama). But I couldn’t stomach the way they turned the Liar Game into a joke.Īnd for those who are getting into Liar Game for the first time, DO NOT watch the Korean adaptation before you’ve at least watched the Japanese drama. I can live with a different premise or a different spin, or heck even maybe slightly different characters. They did everything they could to actually make it wrong. Have you ever heard of “don’t fix what is not broken’? Seriously the director, script writer and all the producers behind the Korean adaptation ought to be fired. While watching I literally cried tears of disappointment. So the highly anticipated Korean adaptation of Liar Game is finally here.
